Hansel and Gretel, Opera year 5...

We've talked before about Max's love for opera.  Max's friends at Opera Colorado Education Program, are always so wonderful at finding just the right opportunities for Max to enjoy opera in the ways he can.  Last year we missed the opera, because we thought we would be seeing a special performance on his Make A Wish trip.  But,  found that his bike was a much better fit.  This year, he got to enjoy his opera at Children's Hospital Colorado.

This year was a special treat, because so many of Max's loves came to share with him.  Including, cousin Addie.  She got to enjoy opera for the first time!

The opera was Hansel and Gretel.  One that Max actually recognizes from a Curious George cartoon he has, where Curious George acts out all the characters for his friend Betsy who is sick, and can't go to her favorite opera.

Max loved it, and sang along as usual.

And smiled and laughed.

He sat with Daddy for a good portion of the opera,  because of this she-man witch...

He was AWESOME!  Max loved to hear him cackle and sing the best.  (No surprise as he was the spooky witch, and the tenor.)  But, as he would cackle, the first couple of times it would startle Max and make him cry.  Once he was safe with Daddy, he could just laugh at him.

This was Addie's favorite part of the opera...

And the pretty girl, and the Papa singing.

And twirling.

I wonder why?

When the Sandman came out, she asked me what he was doing, as he was singing and "blowing sand" on Hansel and Gretel.

I told her he was making them sleepy so they would take a nap.  She said, he's making me sleepy!

She was not too fond of the witch, although she was intrigued enough to watch safely behind the row of seats, or in someone's lap.

It was cute, and the music was lovely.  I thought I had taken some good video, but none of it came out really in focus.  Boo!

After the opera, Max got to see his friends, and meet some new ones.  Including the witch.

A special thanks, once again, to Max's wonderful friends at Opera Colorado!  Cherity and Stephen, it's always a pleasure to visit with you, and we're thankful for the opportunity to give Max one of his favorite things!
