School days...

September 13, 2010...Max's first day of school with his teacher, Mrs. G., at home.

Max's first day of 1st grade

He was waiting for his teacher to show up. Excited for the excitement we were giving him. Lots of talk about being a big guy...and learning abc's and 123's. I think he was mostly excited for all the yellow he got to wear. His first day, his teacher shared with him bubbles, and letter flash cards. He had yet to have any formal testing on what he might know. We were just looking to give Max a little bit of fun outside of mom and therapy a couple of times a week.

He is watching his teacher leave. He's learned his abc's. He's learned his 123's. He's learned his shapes, and colors, and the parts of a plant. He's learned big, and little. He's learned how to read small words. He's learned how to use his computer to talk with us. He's written book reports. He's written letters to his friends. He's showed us all that he's smarter than any of us could have imagined he would be.

He finishes up tomorrow with his friends and teacher at school. We got to see them all earlier this week at the field day, but I'm sure it will be a special time tomorrow during skype too.

This has been the year of the most growth in Max's short life. We've learned more about him in these past 9 months, than we have in all his years before. All because we wanted our boy to have fun in school. Who knew?

Now, on to summer. We're really trying to hype it up. Telling him that ALL of his friends will be on summer break too, and it's going to be fun. I think he's buying it so far. Although, I don't know what he's going to think when Monday comes around and his friends aren't online, neat in a row, with his teacher reading to him.

Second grade, here he comes!

This has been such an exciting school year for all of us! I can't wait to read his first summer vacation report.
