We have been working for almost 2 years to get the "right" AAC device for Max. First, we went with the Tango!. It was a great device....if you aren't an auditory scanner, who needs to customize a lot. So, we sent it back, and put on order the Dynavox V.
Because we were exchanging, there was a lot of extra paperwork and it took a long while to finally get the device. We did have a loaner from Dynavox for the whole time, for Max to learn on.
It isn't his favorite...it's clunky, and the voices are pretty hard to recognize, so we have to spell all the words phonetically in order for Max to hear them correctly to make his selection. There are wires, and stands, and switches and more wires to deal with too...so he's constantly getting tangled up in it.
This past week, we finally got his Dynavox V. We opened the box and left it in his room, because his speech therapist was going to set it up at our next visit. That was today.
I took everything out of the box before she arrived, so it was all ready. And I stepped back and laughed.
All this.....to talk.......
People wonder why we ask to just use the iPad for his speech generating device! After-all...in the end, we're just left with this with the iPad...
