Because we were exchanging, there was a lot of extra paperwork and it took a long while to finally get the device. We did have a loaner from Dynavox for the whole time, for Max to learn on.
It isn't his favorite...it's clunky, and the voices are pretty hard to recognize, so we have to spell all the words phonetically in order for Max to hear them correctly to make his selection. There are wires, and stands, and switches and more wires to deal with too...so he's constantly getting tangled up in it.
This past week, we finally got his Dynavox V. We opened the box and left it in his room, because his speech therapist was going to set it up at our next visit. That was today.
I took everything out of the box before she arrived, so it was all ready. And I stepped back and laughed.
All this.....to talk.......
People wonder why we ask to just use the iPad for his speech generating device! After-all...in the end, we're just left with this with the iPad...

Oh yes, that is the reason we want to go with the ipad. We have enough equipment we are already hauling around.

Hello, my name is Debbi. I have a daughter who is non-verbal, has cp and a chromosome disorder. We are trying with not much luck, to get an AAC eval done. We looked at the tango and loved it. I would love to hear more of your thoughts with the tango!!!! Also, any other devices that you have tried. I have been thinking of getting an iPad, but I'm just not sure what to do. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated!

We had our evaluation done by his speech therapist, who specializes in AAC devices. We got the TANGO! and it is really amazing. But Max doesn't have good control and use of his hands, so he had to use switches to operate it. If Gracie can use her fingers, to activate the screens, it may be a great choice for her.
Once you get with your therapist, ask them to request a demo TANGO! from Dynavox to try out before you buy it. Your therapist can request all the devices to try before you buy. These suckers are CRAZY expensive! A lot of people work with their school district to get them evaluated, ordered, approved, and paid for. DOes your daughter go to public school?

Again, Max can't use his hands in such fine movements, so until we could do it switch adaptable, it wouldn't work for us. But we do use Proloquo on his Mac Computer, and with switches, and it is a super easy program to navigate.
