Tonight Max got a visit at home from Fireman Santa, just like last year. He was excited for the visit all day. As the evening wore on, I think he started to doubt Santa was coming. And by the time the Jolly Old Elf made his appearance, Max couldn't contain his emotions.
He wasn't crying out of being upset, but almost like he was meeting his biggest hero. He was telling Santa he loved him, and just had this super serious, loud voice. I sat him up and let him and Santa have a chat. Santa, of course, was wonderful with Max and let him know he was so happy he got to come see him at home. All the firefighters were great about my fastidious rule of hand sanitizer before touching Max.
I told Santa that Max wasn't exactly upset, just talking very seriously to him. He said, he knew, he could tell. And then the twinkle in his eye found Max's stars he had earned today. Max has been on a big streak of rewards with stickers lately, and was excited to show Santa his green and red stars. When Santa pointed them out and told Max he liked them Max stopped talking and looked square into Santa's eyes. It made me laugh and my little elf taking photos got a chuckle out of it too.
Abbey said it was like Max was Buddy the Elf meeting Santa.
We are very lucky to have such a wonderful fire department that does this for the kids in the community. They are such incredible people.
Here are the photos from tonight. . .
(Me telling Max Santa was here to see him.)
(Max getting all serious and starting to tell Santa all that was on his mind.)
(Santa knelt down beside Max and chatted with him for a while.)
(This was after Santa noticed Max's star stickers.)
(That was when he was happy.)
(Santa brought some suckers. We'll see if Max wants a taste tomorrow in speech therapy.)
(Then it was time for Santa to go see more boys and girls. He told Max on his way out that he would be back in a couple of weeks for Christmas Eve.......so, I guess we are going to have to find another Santa to come back in a couple of weeks because Max is going to be wondering where Santa is!!)
I'm so grateful there are programs like this in our community. Sure, it's for all the kids, but they were all so happy they could bring Santa to Max when he couldn't get to Santa.
