Today meant Music Therapy, and Art Therapy for Max. He was really excited for both, but just couldn't find sleep last night without the help of a little extra sleepy medicine. That means he was a little extra sleepy today.
Although he was very tired on this rainy, cool day, he still put forth an effort to play music and make art.
I got him out of bed right before therapy...at NOON. He was so sacked! But, as soon as music started he worked his magic. Even though he kept his eyes closed most of the time. He's working on some new recordings, and was layering different instruments on one of his songs.

And, of course, he had to play the guitar.

I was uncertain on if I should call and cancel with art therapy since he was so tired, but had the idea to let him paint while he was so sleepy, just to see what he came up with. That meant improvising a bit by allowing him to stay put in his comfy spot while he painted, instead of up in his chair.
I think his art therapist must be used to going with the flow, because she just got right down next to him and let him paint.
Since he was so sleepy, he did great to let her guide him to use finger paints.

He ended up mixing some blue with this one.

Once he was finished with his hands, he wanted to use his feet, or maybe he was just finished with his hands.
This is where things got messy. So, so messy. But, these may be my favorite of his expressions yet.

When he was finished, once again, he pulled back and told us he was all done. He promptly rolled over and fell into a deep hard sleep. We let him rest, waited to move him, and watched the paint dry.

I love to see Max express himself, even when he's utterly exhausted from all the ins and outs and excitement of the past week. I think a little music, art and extra snoozing is just what he needed today.
